Hi Everyone,
I hope you all have been enjoying this beautiful fall weekend. Thanks to everyone to venturing out last week for our Open House. I hope you enjoyed the new format where your students were the guides showing you around. It was nice to meet all of you that I hadn't gotten a chance to meet yet and of course, to see those I had previously met.
We are off to a great start to the new school year. Your kids are wonderful and we have set expectations and established our classroom rules and routines. We are in the swing of things I'd say.
MATH: We are finishing up Unit 1 in math this week and will be having a math assessment on Friday, October 5th. We will be reviewing for the assessment on Thursday, so if your student reviews this they should do well.
On Tuesdays from 8-8:30 am I will be holding math mornings for extra help, preview to upcoming skills or review of previous skills. If you would like to drop your student off we will have some fun while learning math.
WRITING: We are working on choosing an idea to write a realistic fiction story. This is our first writing unit and we will be focusing on developing believable characters. Your student will be publishing this piece in time for November conferences. Students had the opportunity to decorate their writing journals with photographs, stickers and magazine pictures. They are very proud of them and can't wait to write in them!
READING: Reading is a mainstay of our day together. We have silent reading time where I give students an opportunity to read on their own as I conference with students and talk about their reading habits and coach them in improving reading skills. They also have the chance to bookshop at my library each week. They choose books they would like to read--of course if they need suggestions or assistance, I am here to help them.
Reading Logs: Students are responsible for logging their reading here at school and at home. They should be setting a weekly goal and then trying to meet or exceed that goal. Please ensure that your student is reading each evening and at least once over the weekend. Please sign each of the entries that your student logs so that they are accountable.
Friday, October 5th-Wrapping Paper Orders due
Monday October 8th-Columbus Day-NO SCHOOL
Thursday October 11th-Composting Day at CRES
Hoping that October "treats" you well. Stay tuned for Halloween Happenings.
Questions? Comments. Please email or call me.
Thanks for reading.
