Writing Workshop |
|
Each day during Writing Workshop students participate in a mini-lesson, have the opportunity to independently write in a particular genre and share their writing with a partner or the class. Students learn how to plan, draft, confer, revise, edit and finally publish their writing. Add the end of each unit we have a celebration where students have the opportunity to share their published pieces. We use the Writing Units of Study written by Lucy Calkins to structure our writing program. Students will write in a variety of genres throughout the year. These genres will include: Realistic Fiction, Essays, Historical Fiction, and Research. Students create a writer's notebook early in the school year and are encouraged to add entries to these at any time. Writer's notebooks are a great resource for ideas when starting a new writing piece.
