Hi Everyone,
I hope that you have been enjoying your fall holiday weekend. We have had a few busy weeks in third grade and we have some fun things coming up in the next few weeks.
In Math we just took our Unit 1 Math tests. Students did well and I will send them home for your review. I just ask that you sign them and send them back to have them put in your student's portfolio for conferences. We begin Unit 2 tomorrow. We will be working on extended facts and arrays in this unit.
In Writing we are finishing up our first published narrative personal essay. We will start a new one this week. We are working on learning and understanding the writing process including drafting, revising, editing and publishing. I will probably be sending home writer's notebooks for homework soon so that you can help your students brainstorm for ideas for them to write about it.
In Reading we are talking about making predictions and making higher predictions in our reading. We also have been working on using sticky notes and writing about our reading. Students have been doing a great job recording their reading on their reading logs and reading each night. Please help by reminding your students to read and log on their reading logs and sign with your initials.
We will be going on a field trip to the Old York Historical Society on Thurs. 10/20. We will be walking to Jefferd's Tavern. I will be sending out a permission slip on Tues. If you could please sign it and send it back. Also I am looking for the first four volunteers to sign up to chaperone this trip. We will be leaving at 12:15 and will return by 2:15 pm. Please let me know by writing your name on the permission form.
I will be sending out a link to a Signup Genius for November conferences early next week. If you would kindly sign up for you AND your child to attend that would be most appreciated.
Every Friday from now until Dec. 2nd we will have Wake Up and Walk out on the track from 7:45 to 8:15
Also every Wed. from 7:45-8:30 there is Wake Up and Read in the Jane E. Stephenson Library. This is a great way to get in some reading minutes or healthy moving!
As always it is a pleasure spending each day with your students. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.
Tracy
