Happy St. Patrick's Day and I hope the Luck of the Irish is with you! It is hard to believe that it is already March, but we are loving this spring like weather! I hope you enjoyed the February break and had time to spend with family and friends. We have "hit the ground running", as they say and are beginning to prepare for state tests-MEAs that we will start THIS week! Please ensure that your student arrives to school ON TIME, has a healthy breakfast and gets a good night's rest.
MATH
Math has been very consistent and we do a math lesson every day! The students are very used to the routine by now and hopefully have shown you what we do in class through the home links that have come home as homework. We are focusing on division in Unit 6 as well as measuring angles, so we have learned how to use a half circle protractor. We will be finishing up this unit this week and will take the end of unit assessment on Wed. March 20th. We will start Unit 7 sometime in the next week or so-scheduling around MEA testing. **You will also note that your student will probably have less homework as we want them to get a good night's rest and not be too stressed from testing.
WRITING & READING:
In writing we are working on creating a four chapter book about the American Revolution. This is a cross curricular unit that ties in social studies as well as reading and writing.
Students are learning how to do critical research, then using that knowledge to write an overview chapter All About the American Revolution, a chapter on their chosen subtopic, a narrative story depicting the subtopic event--i.e. The Boston Tea Party, and finally an essay as to why this event was important to the American revolution. You may recall a paper that came home this week outlining the culminating project that your student will complete at home about their subtopic. This is due on WED. APRIL 3RD . ON THURS. APRIL 4TH- from 6-7 pm we will have a American Revolution Museum walk. You are invited to come to CRES to view the students' projects and ask them questions. We hope you can join us!
Here are a few important dates for you to keep in mind for the next few weeks!
Tuesday, March 19th-Portland Symphony Orchestra-strings will be performing live at CRES! We are asking that students please dress appropriately, even dress up a bit for this performance. Boys can wear collared shirts, nice pants. Girls can wear skirts, dresses or nice dress pants. We are working on audience behavior and manners in general. If you have any questions, please be in contact with me.
