This bright sunny day is a delight and a respite from the rainy, windy weather we have been experiencing lately! Indoor recess gets "old" really quickly! We had a really fun week this past week and here's just some updates to keep you "in the loop!"
MATH: We started taking the Unit 2 Math assessment on Friday. Some students will finish up during morning work time tomorrow(Monday) I will hold on to this assessment and we will be putting them in our portfolios for you to look at during/after conferences. Our next unit we will be working with fractions!
WRITING: We are still working on our realistic fiction stories. Many students have drafted and are now revising and editing. We hope to finish publishing this week(having a typed and edited final copy!) This, too, will be included in our portfolios for conferences. We will be having a writing celebration sometime the week of 11/13. Our next writing unit will begin after Thanksgiving--we will be tackling persuasive essays!
READING: Your students have been doing great work setting and meeting reading goals each week. You may or may not have noticed that I have now included a prompt on the back of the reading log for your student to fill out prior to passing it in on Monday morning. This will be typically a skill that we have been working on in class and this solidifies their learning. It is also important for the students to write about their reading as it aids their comprehension of what they are reading about. We will be taking a post assessment in reading and all that we have learned about characters, next Wednesday, 11/14/18. I am hoping to have most corrected in time for conferences so we can celebrate their growth as a reader. Don't forget to take those reading selfies and email them my way!!
CONFERENCES: Thank you to most who have signed up for student led conferences. Please remember that these are designed to celebrate your student's success and to set goals for the next part of fourth grade. It is important for your student to accompany you as they are looking forward to showing you their work. You should receive a reminder email of the date and time of your conference. Or you can access the signupgenius webpage at:https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0f4ba5a82ba20-november3.
I think that covers it for now! Thanks to all the parents who came, prepared and helped out during the Halloween festivities! The kids had a ball!
This week in Science we did a Project Based Learning exercise in groups trying to save farmland from eroding. The students loved the hands on activity and learned alot. I sent some pictures through ClassDoJo but I will also put them on the class website for you to view.
