Well February has gotten off to a good start! It has been cold, balmy and snowy. It's hard to know what our next weather is going to be. We have been working along and getting things done before break. Students have been enjoying being morning meeting leader and we have been working on kindness to one another and others in our school. We also have been practicing manners, good eye contact, please and thank yous!
MATH: We have been adding, subtracting and working with fractions with like denominators and with mixed numbers. We will be taking the Unit 5 assessment this week on WED. 2/13! and when we return we will be starting Unit 6 which will be another look at geometry and division.
WRITING: We are working very hard to finish up our persuasive essays so that we can present this week. Many students have finished typing, revising and editing and are now creating slides so that they may film their speeches and turn them into "CRES Chats"(think: TED Talks) We will be finishing these this week. I will try to post them on this website so that you can access them. They are all doing an outstanding job of finding evidence to convince people of their ideas. Our next unit will be working on the Revolutionary War.
READING: This past week, students presented extreme weather posters to their classmates to teach them about what they had researched and what they had learned. They did an amazing job and the posters are hanging in our hallway for you to view when you are at CRES. We will now compare and contrast two weather events together and write a paragraph about them. When we return from break we will be combining our reading and writing units and focusing on the Revolutionary War. More to come about that-so stay tuned!!
VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY! Our Valentine's Day party will take place on Friday, February 15th from 9:30-10:40 am. We will decorate our valentine's bags, have gluten free sugar cookies, strawberries and exchange valentines. If we have time, we will play Valentine's Bingo. If you would like to attend, please feel free to come.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART-Fri. 2/15 We will be jumping in the gym with the rest of the fourth grade from 10:45-12:15. Please send your student with a water bottle, sneakers and their pledge cards/money.
FEBRUARY VACATION 2/16-2/24: If your student will be absent PRIOR to or AFTER the break, could you please let me know ASAP via email or phone call, as I can send some work to be made up with them. It is incredibly difficult to get students caught up if they miss work, as we are moving on to new curriculum. Thank you!
Please remind your students to bring proper clothing with them to school. It gets very windy and muddy on the playground. Students should have hats, mittens/gloves and boots. If there is snow, please provide snow pants for them. Our lost and found bin outside the gym is overflowing. This could be avoided if students' names were written inside their belongings. Please check the bin on your way out to see if there are any of your treasures in there! Thank you!
I hope that you and your family have a safe and happy February vacation. As always, if you have a concern or comment, please feel free to email or call me.
